Theories of communication vs maths in poker
Last week I left you with a brief overview of the contexts within which I developed the Skill Poker Index, which erase variance in live poker.
The theoretical framework on which the logic of the game is based, has as a focus, poker Texas Hold’em and sport, with a focus on skill disciplines. I will offer an evolutionary overview of the origins of the game to the present day. The discussion will lead to the current legal status of poker in relation to the conditions necessary to be recognized as a sport.
What are Skill Index
Skill Index are the percentage indicators that determine the partial distribution of the pot in relation to the skills involved in a given stage of the spot.
The elaboration of the Skill Poker Index required an interdisciplinary study, according to an inductive method. The use of mathematics, contrary to what traditionally happens, dominating in all aspects of the discipline, was only instrumental. Thanks to the theories of micro-communication, acquired during the academic cycle, I was able to rework the “Theory of Poker” by David Sklansky[1987] and the concept of “Utility” by Arnold Snyder[2008].
From the point of view of the strategic elaboration of the game there are many scientific disciplines to which every player can access. For the creation of the Skill Index I relied on the field of Semiotics and the Philosophy of languages, drawing from “Trait Semantics” according to the doctrines of the Danish linguist Hjielmslew.
Empirical tournament
It’s a private freeroll tournament with a cap. of 64 players and a prize pool made available by the organization to ensure competitive dynamics. The field will consist of half of professional players and the other half of amateurs .It will be an opportunity to find out how the Skill Index will work in a real live experience.
